Nezu, Bunkyo-ku, Tokyo
I've moved in. As promised, photos follow.
Also, fortunately one of my neighbors has an open wireless network, so it looks like I'll be getting some free access for a little while -- although I'll be setting up my own connection soon for reliability, an internet phone, and Madden!
Here's a view of the apartment from sitting on my "bed" (a futon, which is simply a pad on the floor, with bedding & a pillow).
Here's a view of the apartment from the entryway/kitchen. (unseen on the left is my bathroom)
Here's a view from the main room looking into my kitchen. The fridge/freezer is courtesy of Eiji, who no longer had need of this one. Plus the Kanekos equipped me with some instant coffee & cereal, which will be very nice to have before setting off on my first day of work tomorrow!
In the spirit of blogs past, it is contest time! Whoever can identify this kitchen appliance (which I purchased today at Japan's equivalent to Wal-Mart) will be given a free onigiri or nikuman of their choosing upon arrival in Japan! So, guess away!

Rice steamer/maker.... Give my prize to Dave.
your place looks nice. yay for new apartments!
your mystery appliance is a hot pot...for heating water/tea/etc. as decided by the michaluk household.
ohhhh man i am getting so pumped! GOOD LUCK on your first day of work - i hope it is awesome and amazing and not at all boring!!!
Sorry Dave, you'll have to buy your own food :-D
Of course, I expected rice cooker to be the natural first guess & it's made by the same company that is famous for its rice cookers.
Michalukz for the win!!
It is in fact a perpetual hot pot/water heater.
It's well insulated, so it's full of hot water for whenever I need tea, "kohi" (coffee), or water for instant noodles.
Oyasumi Nasai!

that apartment is definitely japanese.
Its a Yokazuna grill.
kevin you should prrrrooooobably get a real desk and a real bed because I hear that Japanese cockroaches come out of the sewer, crawl into your ears while you're sleeping, and draw calligraphy graffiti on your brain.
Too late! Daijobu.
It's a space heater/thermostat so you don't freeze your baggettes off, although you're wooly enough to be well insulated.
